Acrylic Impact Strength Modifiers

Acrylic impact resistance modifier is an additive used in the formulation of PVC compositions in order to ensure such processes as:

• Improvement of the mechanical properties of the finished product;
• Increased impact strength: increases resistance to mechanical damage and impacts;
• Improved elasticity: provides flexibility and plasticity of the final product;
• Low temperature resistance: Helps to maintain properties at low temperatures, reducing brittleness.

The impact strength modifier is a polymer having a core-shell structure.

The role of the PBA core:

• Increased impact resistance.

 

The role of the PMMA shell:

• Ensuring the flowability of the powder for uniform material supply;
• Good compatibility with PVC matrix → high dispersion;
• Improvement of the PVC gelling process.

 

Elastomeric particles:
– dissipation of impact energy in a large volume of material.

When an external impact is applied to a PVC product, the core elastomers compensate for it in a large area, converting the mechanical energy of the impact into thermal energy. Thus, impact strength modifiers are able to significantly increase the impact strength of PVC products even at low temperatures.

Butylacrylates forming the core of Revamod acrylic modifiers manufactured by Donglin are characterized by a uniquely low glass transition temperature, which ensures the highest impact strength of finished profiles at low temperatures. Also, often Revamod brand modifiers manufactured by Donglin are used in a lower dosage compared to competitive products to obtain the same product properties.
